Announcement regarding the proclaimed amendments on the Law on Enrolling in the Registry of Birth

Regarding the proclaimed amendments on the Law on Enrolling in the Registry of Birth, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic welcomes the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-government, which would ease legal procedure for sex change registration.

Jankovic emphasizes that Commissioner for the Protection of Equality gave recommendation in its regular Annual Reports related to the improvement of legal position of transgender persons, in order to enable them to fully integrate their new identity in their private and professional life, with full respect of right to privacy, reminding that the institution was receiving complaints on this ground from citizens in previous years. In such way, another recommendation of Commissioner was fulfilled, given with aim to improve the respect of equality principle.

I believe that this is a part of the process that will lead to true improvement of trans-sex and transgender persons position and contribute to further construction of society in which persons with other gender identities will be able to enjoy all rights and be equal part of the society, concluded Commissioner.
