Condemnation of the attack on visitors of a queer club

The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, condemns the attack on visitors of the queer club “Mornar” during a drag party in Belgrade. Any violence, threats and intimidation motivated by hatred towards LGBTQ+ persons constitute an inadmissible violation of the right to equality and the safety of citizens.

He states that the frequent attacks and hate speech directed at the LGBTQ+ community are concerning, as they contribute to creating an atmosphere of insecurity and intolerance in society. It is important that the competent authorities efficiently establish all the circumstances of this incident and take measures in accordance with the law.

Antonijević recalls that all forms of discrimination are prohibited by law and appeals to everyone to contribute to the protection of human rights, tolerance and respect for the dignity of every individual.
