Warning regarding misogynistic posts on social networks

The misogynistic post by Member of Parliament Petar Bošković on the social network X, directed at the competencies of Biljana Jovanović, employed in the Secretariat of the Ministry of Defence, constitutes sex- and gender-based harassment with the aim of violating dignity based on personal characteristics, which is prohibited by the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination, warned the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević.

Of additional concern is the fact that such a post prompted a series of vulgar comments, as well as the creation of offensive AI-generated video content, thereby further deepening the atmosphere of sexism and public harassment, Antonijević stated.

The Commissioner emphasized that the public dissemination of offensive and sexist content targeting women in public life is absolutely unacceptable, as it contributes to maintaining harmful stereotypes according to which the positions women hold are not the result of professional knowledge and competencies, but of their appearance or gender.

Public office holders bear particular responsibility in the public and political sphere, and are obliged to refrain from statements that insult, humiliate, or harass women, bearing in mind the high level of discrimination and violence that women in Serbia face daily, Antonijević stated.
