Commissioner at the Opening of the First Equal Voice Edit-a-thon Editing Marathon

On Wikipedia, as well as in many other encyclopedias, pages about the lives of many notable women are often missing, whose achievements have remained in the shadow of men — those who write history and about whom history writes, which is why it is important that actions like this exist, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, at the opening of the first “Equal Voice Edit-a-thon” editing marathon.

This event, held at the University Library “Svetozar Marković,” officially marked the start of cooperation between the institution of the Commissioner and the company Ringier Serbia within their international initiative Equal Voice, which aims to equalize the presence of women and men in the media space.

During the marathon, biographies of twelve women from recent Serbian history were created and supplemented, who have left a significant mark but until now did not have their own pages on Wikipedia, and several of them are our contemporaries. Among them are art historians, scientists, university professors, and artists.

At the opening of the event, Jelena Isaković, Director of Publishing at Ringier Serbia, Oja Krinulović from the University Library, and Gorana Gomirac, representative of Wikimedia Serbia, who gave participants a short training on creating content on Wikipedia, also spoke.
