NEW MASTER’S PROGRAM “LAW AND GENDER” PRESENTED

Without gender equality, there can be no rule of law nor progress of society. Law must follow life, and it is necessary to have relevant experts who will become specialized in providing answers about gender roles and discrimination in a scientifically based and clear way, emphasized the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at the presentation of the new master’s program “Law and Gender”, which will welcome the first generation of students at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade this fall.

Speaking about the program to representatives of the academic community, the non-governmental sector and the judicial academy, Janković said that education and knowledge are the basis for the prosperity of any society and that it is good that future master’s students will have the opportunity to learn about the application of the principle of gender equality from the most eminent professors.

The “Law and Gender” program strives and succeeds in reviewing all branches of law and legal education in a systematic, comprehensive, analytical, academic and studious manner from the perspective of gender equality and overcoming gender inequality, as well as the multiple discrimination to which women are particularly exposed, explained Professor Dragica Vujadinović, manager of the Master’s program “Law and Gender”, and Associate Professor Nina Kršljanin, Vice Dean for Scientific and Professional Work at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade.

The Commissioner, as a partner, has been participating in the preparation of the new Law and Gender master’s program from the beginning, together with the Center for Democracy Foundation, whose general secretary Nataša Vučković pointed out that such programs are intended for all those who work in legislation, state administration and the judiciary, and who want to contribute to gender equality and a better position of women in society.

The development and promotion of this teaching program at the Faculty of Law is also supported by the OSCE Mission in Serbia, and the right to enroll until September 30th is open to students who have completed studies in law, social sciences and humanities, and who, after completing their master’s degree, will receive the title “Master of Law – Law and Gender”. The study program will be conducted in English, and the lecturers will be professors from Belgrade and European universities.
