Warning for the public on unacceptable content on TV Happy

Recent TV Happy show in which astrologists, numerologists and graphologists were interpreting natal charts and destiny numbers of Milena Radulovic and Miroslav Aleksic, in relation to the recently reported case of sexual violence, is an unacceptable humiliation and ridiculing of the woman who reported the violence, as well as mockery of this topic, warns Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic. It is inadmissible to trivialize the whole event in such manner, to examine the personality structure by analyzing horoscopes, handwriting, etc., and even to re-examine the veracity of reports, says Jankovic and points out that judicial bodies are the only ones competent to establish facts in a specific case.

Sexual violence is extremely sensitive issue, and therefore requires a careful approach in analytics and adequate selection of interlocutors. A television with a national frequency should not allow the broadcasting of such content, and journalists, presenters and editors must have awareness and responsibility when dealing with such important and sensitive topics.

Commissioner stated that the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) should react in accordance with its competencies and also reminds the public that the Republic of Serbia was among the first countries that ratified the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and that we are committed to fighting violence and discrimination against women by all means.
