Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic spoke about the protection against discrimination at the labor market and the area of labor rights, at the opening of the first interactive seminar for arbiters of Republican Agency for Peaceful Settlement of Labor Disputes titled “Individual Labor Disputes in Practice”.
Commissioner stressed that it is necessary to establish better cooperation between the institutions, so that citizens could know that they can also ask for the protection of their rights outside of courts. She stated that mediation has a long tradition in our legal system and that in spite of numerous challenges, we should send a message that mechanisms for the protection of rights are functioning. Commissioner for the Protection of Equality can significantly contribute to the expansion of legal practice in area of implementation of anti-discrimination regulations with its experiences, stressed Commissioner.
Conference was opened by Director of Republican Agency for Peaceful Settlement of Labor Disputes Mile Radivojevic, while other speakers were also State Secretary in the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Issues Stana Bozovic, Belgrade Supreme Court of Cassation judge Predrag Trifunovic and Prof. Zivko Kulic, while senior adviser in the Professional Service of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Tijana Milosevic presented the role and mandate of the institution, as well as examples from the practice of Commissioner in area of labor and employment.
