The SAFO team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Novi Sad is the winner of the traditional “Moot court” competition, a simulation of a trial in the field of protection against discrimination for final year law students, which the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality has been organizing for 9 years. The second-placed HIPATIJA team comes from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, while Tijana Glišović from the same team was declared the best speaker.
The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, congratulated the awardees and stated that she is glad that future lawyers find inspiration to participate in this competition every year, thus showing their determination to improve their knowledge in the field of anti-discrimination law and the development of human rights culture. The goal of the “Moot court” competition is to contribute both to the development of legal education in this area and to the improvement of equality in the Republic of Serbia, emphasized Janković. The awards were presented to the students by Dejan Đukić , director of the Register of National Internet Domains of Serbia, with whose support the competition was implemented.
“Moot court” is the only competition of this type in Europe in the field of discrimination and consists of drafting a lawsuit and a response to the lawsuit, as well as simulating the discussion at the hearing, based on a given case. This year, the case pertained to discrimination based on nationality in the digital sphere. In the role of judges were: Deputy Prosecutor of the Court of Appeals in Belgrade, Dragan Tasić, former president of the Constitutional Court, Bosa Nenadić, special deputy of the Minister of Justice, Snežana Radanović, lawyer Dejan Ukropina and director of the RNIDS foundation, Dejan Đukić.
