Regarding the incidents at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, related to the request for the dismissal of Professor Dinko Gruhonjić, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, points out that what is happening is not a way to determine anyone’s responsibility, and that it turns us as a society away from the basic principle of rule of law.
The Commissioner reminds once again that the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination prohibits the expression of ideas and opinions that incite hatred or violence based on actual or assumed personal characteristics towards anyone. Janković points out that establishing the violation of the law should be dealt with by institutions and not individuals because it is undeniably bad for society and the system. The Commissioner asks for a timely response from the competent authorities and appeals to everyone’s common sense not to allow tensions to rise.
