Commissioner for Protection of Equality Ms Brankica Janković urges to all the competent authorities to find most suitable and adequate solution for housing more dosens of Roma families that to be forcely displaced last week from informal settlements in Zemun and Novi Beograd. The Commissioner warns that it is necessary, according to the international standards and guidelines for displacement of informal settlements, to immediately take all measures needed for adequate housing of the habitants of displaced Roma settlements. Futhermore commissioner emphasizes that small children and women make large number of habitants of those settlements and that acting with dignity and humanity is not the issue of good will but the issue of basic human rights.
Commissioner Jankovic concluddes that every displacement should be applied with active participance of persons to be displaced and with full respect of their needs and their right to be involved in making decisions related to all issues affecting them.
