Commissioner for Protection of Equality, Brankica Jankovic, strongly condemns the threats, sent to the editor-in-chief of Beta, Dragan Janjic in a SMS message, that the agency is to be burned in case if unrests occur on Saturday.

This is not the first time that Beta’s editor-in-chief is being threatened in the most brutal manner, and now the threat extends to all employees.

Commissioner warns that journalists are becoming more and more targeted only because of their work and considers the atmosphere of fear and threats to their security to be seriously concerning. Freedom of expression and information must not be compromised, and journalists should have conditions to perform their work smoothly, without fear for their personal security.

She expects the authorities, who as stated by Beta Agency were already informed about the case, to react as soon as possible.
