The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, visited Užice, where she talked with the participants of the 11th generation of mentors and mentees as part of the “Share Your Knowledge” program. This program is aimed at building mutual support for women through sharing experiences, networking and strengthening solidarity.
The Commissioner also visited the Women’s Center Uzice, which provides the “Helpline assistance” service to people who have experienced domestic violence in the Zlatibor district. Violence against women is a great social problem and the responsibility for its suppression lies with the entire society, the media, and public figures whose actions can influence the change of stereotypical attitudes. That is why the role of the civil sector and associations such as the Women’s Center of Uzice is important, which helps women who have suffered violence and empowers them to report it.
In addition, Women’s Center Uzice is a women’s initiatives in the field of gender equality with most awards as it achieves success in the field of promoting gender equality, advocating women’s rights, supporting rural women’s associations and social entrepreneurship.
