“We must do better in the fight against corruption and all other forms of violation of the rule of law and justice. Strong institutions, free media, and political will are key”, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, at the conference “The fight against state capture in Southeast Europe: fulfilling the European promise on the rule of law”, organized by the Center for European Policies.
The participants of the conference assessed that the rule of law and reforms in that area represent the most important element for improving the everyday life of citizens. However, what is also important is that citizens, especially young people, understand that solutions even for decades-old problems are possible and that they will no longer be passed down from generation to generation. Otherwise, young people will leave the country, which is not in the interest of the state.
The participants of the meeting were addressed by:
Ruslan Stefanov – Program Director of the Center for Democracy Studies, Jørn Eugene Gjelstad – Ambassador of Norway to Serbia, Christopher Hill – Ambassador of the USA to Serbia, Tanja Miščević – Minister of European Integration of Serbia, and Srđan Majstorović – Director of the CEP Board of Directors.
