The BodyRight campaign “Your body is yours, both online and in the real world!”, which the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) organizes in cooperation with the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality from November 2022, was presented in the Matica Srpska Gallery in Novi Sad to diplomats and partners who support the initiative to ensure better protection of privacy and bodily autonomy in the digital space. The campaign was also presented at the EXIT festival, where visitors and members of the delegation had the opportunity to get additional information and make a personal contribution to the visibility of the BodyRight campaign.
Violence against women and girls is taking on new forms and is expanding in the digital world as well, which is why this campaign is gaining importance, as it promotes the protection of personal dignity, integrity, and bodily autonomy in the virtual world, said Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković. She pointed out that an adequate protection system is needed, which is still missing in many countries, and that only together we can build a digital world where everyone’s rights are respected, where diversity is celebrated, and where empathy and kindness prevail.
The goal of the campaign is to raise the awareness of the general population, especially young people, about widespread gender-based violence in the digital sphere, and its consequences. The campaign calls on decision-makers, technology companies, as well as all other relevant organizations to improve both protection and support mechanisms for people of different ages who are exposed to this type of violence and abuse.
