STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA

On the occasion of marking the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, the Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Janković says that members of LGBT population still face problems in exercising their rights, social distance, disparagement and even violence, which is why we should continue with activities aimed to improvement of their position.

Janković emphasizes that our LGBT fellow citizens are equal citizens of Serbia and that they must not be discriminated against because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. She notes that members of the LGBT population must be provided with equal and dignified realization of all human rights, without fear of condemnation and violence.

Modern society must not tolerate any kind of discrimination and must create conditions for all our citizens to be equal, says Janković and points out that members of LGBT population should be empowered to report discrimination and submit complaints to the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
