STATEMENT FOLLOWING THE ADDRESS OF THE ROMA NATIONAL COUNCIL TO THE COMMISSIONER

For the full realization of constitutionally guaranteed rights, and with the aim of improving democratic processes in Serbia, the national councils of national minorities, when electing candidates for membership in the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), must be free from any inappropriate influence, regardless of the source of such influence, emphasized the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Milan Antonijević, following the address of the Roma National Council regarding developments related to the exercise of the rights of national minorities to independently decide on issues that directly affect their position and institutional representation.

Furthermore, the existence of the expressed will of the majority of national minority councils is indisputable, and therefore I expect all actors to allow the national minority councils to independently decide on their own candidates, the Commissioner emphasized.
