Commissioner for the Protection of equality Brankica Janković would like to warn that certain media report about the murder of a young man in Zemun in an inappropriate and sensational manner.

By bringing together the transgender status and the committed murder, and by using offensive expressions and qualifications, they additionally create intolerance and hostility towards these persons.

Although a progress has been made in improving the position of this social group and in respecting the rights of the LGBT population, the Commissioner calls upon the media not to present discriminatory attitudes and to report in compliance with ethical standards and the Serbian Journalists’ Code.
