The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, strongly condemned the writing of hateful graffiti against citizens of the Orthodox religion on the wall of an elementary school in Novi Pazar. She warned that writing messages that incite religious hatred and violence is prohibited by law and is particularly harmful in multinational environments, given that these are places that should illustrate the richness of diversity and nurture the values of joint life among citizens of all nationalities and religions.
The Commissioner praised the quick reaction, thanks to which the graffiti with hate speech was removed in the shortest possible time, and expressed the expectation that the perpetrators would be discovered and prosecuted, in order to send a clear message that there is no place for vandalism and inspiring hatred towards anyone. It is very significant that writing graffiti was condemned by the public because it must be continuously pointed out that calls to violence and extremism are not allowed in our society, Janković emphasized.
