The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality informs the public that Primary School “Vuk Karadžić” in Bajmok did not act upon the recommendation of the Commissioner’s institution to reinstate the mathematics teacher, who had worked at the school for 16 years on a fixed-term contract, and to issue her a written apology, after it was established in the proceedings that discrimination had occurred in the field of employment due to trade union activity.
The Commissioner, acting upon the employee’s complaint, issued an opinion that the school had violated the provisions of the Law on the Prohibition of Discrimination. The proceedings established that the complainant had been discriminated against because during the 2024/2025 school year she was the president of the trade union and the strike committee and had organized a strike at the school as a form of support to the student protests.
At the beginning of the new school year, the school did not conclude a new employment contract with the complainant, after 16 years of working as a mathematics teacher in classes where instruction was delivered both in Hungarian and in Serbian, although there was a need to fill three mathematics teaching positions.
Given that the school did not act upon the recommendation even after a warning had been issued within the legal deadline of 30 days, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Milan Antonijević, in accordance with the law, informs the public of the failure to act upon the issued recommendation.
