The Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic along with a group of employees joined the Trans Pride and Pride parade, which were held in Belgrade on September 20th 2015. It was a chance to show commitment to the ideas of tolerance and respect for differences and also to send a message that every individual and individuals are free to express their view. We all have to continue to improve the position of LGBT people. Human rights and freedoms must be respected and protected, regardless of sexual orientation.
Commissioner Jankovic said that realisation of both parades represent a significant step towards the implementation of the rights of LGBT people to gathering and freedom of speech. She added that it is necessary to undertake measures for overcoming prejudice, stereotypes and discriminatory attitudes towards sexual minorities.
Commissioner Jankovic expressed satisfaction over the fact that the Pride Parade and Trans Pride were held peacefully without any incidents. She is also satisfied with the fact that this year’s parade was attended by representatives of state institutions, international organizations and citizens.
