The decision of the Serbian Progressive Party to nominate half of the women for the new Government of the Republic of Serbia is a good example for all other political actors and parties in terms of conducting gender-balanced public policies, which is commendable – said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković.
In a time of great challenges in which we as a society face complex problems, it is necessary to look at possible solutions from different perspectives, taking into account that women are often more cautious, and more thoughtful and look at problems from a different viewpoint, the decisions that will be made can be even better and more practical for society. This approach also respects the constitutional principle of equality between men and women and, ultimately, reflects the gender structure of our population. This also applies to the national composition, taking into account that several members of national minorities have been proposed for ministerial positions, which is also an important factor of social cohesion, pointed out Janković.
Commissioner Janković reminds that a month ago she sent to the mandate holder for the composition of the Government a Recommendation of measures for a balanced representation of the genders, and thus this decision of the largest political party keeps Serbia in a very high place in Europe in the domain of women’s political participation and respect for gender equality, which is also important for the further process European integration of our country – concluded Janković.
