Great interest that media editors expressed for conference that was held in Niš, on the occasion of presentation of manuals „Fight for Equality“ and „Media, Gender and Security“, published by Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, with support of OSCE Mission in Serbia, confirmed that media are important partners of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
At the conference opening, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, accented the importance of media manual „Fight for Equality“ that promotes use of anti-discriminatory and gender sensitive terms and expressed her conviction that this manual could eliminate certain doubts that journalist may have when reporting about sensitive social groups.
Head of media department in OSCE Mission in Serbia, Gordana Janković, praised the cooperation with institution of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality regarding publishing these two manuals and expressed her conviction that their implementation would contribute to the key role of media in rising awareness about discrimination and strengthening of tolerant and equal society.
The conference was also welcomed by Deputy Mayor of Niš Mološ Banđur, while Olivera Zurovac Kuzman from the OSCE Mission in Serbia presented manual „Media, Gender and Security“ that was created with idea to change stereotyped portraying of women and men during the reporting about extreme situations.
