The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, strongly condemns the distribution of inadmissible content on the networks directed against the member of Parliament, Staša Stojanović, in the rudest way.
It’s not the first time that offensive and sexist content has been published publicly against female politicians, which belittles and insults them, but this type of online violence, which aims to discredit the member of Parliament as a woman in the most shameless way, is absolutely unacceptable, the Commissioner says.
Janković points out that this is another of the many examples in which women are belittled and insulted and which reinforce sexist stereotypes that women in positions cannot possess professional competence, but their positions are rather the result of their appearance.
She emphasizes that such an act must not be tolerated against any woman and reminds that sexual and gender-based harassment, which aims to violate the dignity of a person, is a violation of the law.
