The institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality continues its long-standing cooperation with the Red Cross of Serbia and the Foundation “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture” with the aim of improving the position of older citizens and combating ageism, it was stated at the joint meeting of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Milan Antonijević and representatives of the Red Cross of Serbia.
At the meeting, future activities were discussed that will be focused on reducing discrimination against older persons, increasing their participation in society, strengthening financial security, and enhancing cooperation with health and social institutions, along with raising awareness of the specific needs of older people. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of economic empowerment of older women, including issues of inheritance and property rights.
As a good example of proactive cooperation among institutions, organizations, and citizens’ associations, experiences from the project “Age Against the Machine” were presented, which through socially engaged theater encourages intergenerational solidarity and draws attention to discrimination against older persons.
It was agreed that cooperation will continue through the exchange of knowledge, joint initiatives, and clearer public policies and recommendations, so that topics of dignified aging become more visible and concrete in practice.
