The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, met with the new Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, János Babity, with whom she discussed the cooperation on the ongoing projects “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey” and “Integration of Roma III”, which are implemented within the initiative by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, as well as on future joint projects.
One of the important topics was the position of the Roma national minority and the significance of improving their position, so after the meeting, they took the opportunity to visit the Mothers’ Center “Aurora Mine” in Veliki Mokri Lug together. This visit represents the first step in a series of planned activities for this year, during which a tour of different parts of Serbia and discussions with Roma men and women are planned, to introduce them to the concept of discrimination and how to recognize it, but also to encourage them to report discrimination to the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality. One of the activities will be the presentation of the new research, “Perception of the Roma community on discrimination”.
