Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Issues Zoran Djordjevic met with Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic.
Main topic of this meeting was amendments to the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, undertaken in order to harmonize it with European legislative. By adopting these amendments, the protection frame for citizens against discrimination will be significantly improved. They also discussed about improvement the position of marginalized groups, including Roma and persons with disabilities, whose complaints are submitted to Commissioner for the Protection of Equality at most.
Commissioner Jankovic welcomed the constitution of a new sector within the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Issues and stated that it presents system approach to improvement of gender equality.
Minister Djordjevic expressed his gratitude to Commissioner for the support and stated that such way of cooperation is the most important for permanent resolution of sensitive social groups problems, including the overall approach that the Ministry he is conducting will have in its future work.
It was also agreed at the meeting to begin with training for labor inspectors, aimed to recognizing and reacting in discrimination cases. Training will be conducted starting from October in four Serbian cities: Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and Kragujevac.
Commissioner and the Minister discussed about preparation of essential training programs for improvement of knowledge and skills of staff employed in Social Care Centers, in order to prepare expert workers to answer challenges in front of them in the best possible way, especially discrimination and its most drastic shape – violence.
