International Girls in ICT Day Marked at the Palace of Science

With the announcement of the winners of the “Catch the Idea” competition, the International Girls in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Day was marked for the fifteenth time at the Palace of Science. In her opening address, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, emphasized the importance of empowering girls and the significance of their future role in these fields.

International Girls in ICT Day is a day to celebrate the potential, talent, innovation, creativity, and strength of girls around the world. Despite the digital age being in full swing, girls remain underrepresented in this sector and in the natural sciences in general. But do not let prejudice or societal expectations stop you from pursuing what you want to do—because the future is in your hands, too—the hands of future programmers, engineers, technologists, designers, mathematicians, added the Commissioner, who was one of the jury members of the “Catch the Idea” competition.

The competition, organized by the Association of Business Women of Serbia and the company A1, gathered more than 100 girls from the final grades of 29 primary schools across Serbia. The girls presented their ideas on themes such as solidarity, environmental protection, and the impact of social media, transforming them into creative animations, quizzes, and video games.

The first prize was awarded to Nastasija Filipović, Dunja Kojički, and Darija Radosavljević from “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj” Primary School in Sremska Mitrovica for their project “Darija in the World of Atoms!”. The second prize went to Una Janićijević and Nikolina Raičević from “Dositej Obradović” Primary School in Vrba for the project “Kefalica,” while the third prize was awarded to Zoi Mirković from “Banović Strahinja” Primary School in Belgrade for “Eco Heroes: Mission Clean Planet.” Fourth place went to Darija Osipova from “Sveti Sava” Primary School in Belgrade for her work “Dasha – Plastic in the Ocean,” while the fifth prize was awarded to Dunja Radovanović and Dušica Filipović from “Stevan Sremac” Primary School in Dobanovci for the project “Let’s Clean the Ocean Together.” A special commendation was given to Lena Simić from “Branko Radičević” Primary School in Melnica.

In addition to Brankica Janković, the competition jury included Olivera Popović, Vice President of the Association of Business Women of Serbia, and Branka Pudrlja Durbaba, Chief Director for Market and Customer Satisfaction at A1 Serbia.
