On International Children’s Day, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality organized a ceremony where the winners of the award competition for elementary school students in Serbia, “Bridge of Understanding – Intergenerational Solidarity”, were announced. This year, more than 700 students sent their works on the topic of intergenerational cooperation, which is a record for the seven years that this competition has been held in cooperation of the Commissioner, the Ministry of Education, and the UNFPA office in Serbia.
Each of the award-winning works of young authors emotionally portrays relationships with older generations, confirming that bridges between generations are built on sound foundations and maintain a permanent connection with future generations, said Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, at the ceremony’s opening. The works that arrive at the competition year after year show us through love and innovation that schools are a place where children learn, besides educational material, also important lessons about the values of equality, togetherness, and friendship, Janković pointed out.
