Educational Forum on the Importance of Workplace Equality

An educational forum for employers titled “Achieving Equality in the Workplace” was held today in Belgrade as part of a series of workshops organized by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality in cooperation with GIZ Serbia. The forum was attended by representatives from 25 companies, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, and the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Participants were introduced to the newly revised edition of the Equality Code, gaining a deeper understanding of their legal obligations and social responsibilities. By signing the Partnership for Equality Charter, companies committed to exchanging best practices within the network to contribute to building a more inclusive society.

At the opening of the forum, Commissioner Brankica Janković emphasized that the business world and human rights are interconnected, forming the foundation for responsible and successful operations that offer equal opportunities for all. Other speakers included Johanna Wohlmeyer, Coordinator of the Initiative for Global Solidarity at GIZ Serbia; Alexander Markus, Executive Board Member of the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce; and Tanja Lindell, Assistant Director of the Economic Association Sector at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and Project Manager of the Responsible Business Hub.

In the workshop’s practical segment, Lidl Serbia shared its experiences as a company that actively implements internal policies to prevent discrimination and human rights violations. Lidl Serbia has been a member of the Equality Partnership with the Commissioner since 2019.

These educational workshops are part of the project “Advancing Workplace Equality – A Joint Initiative for Workplace Equality,” implemented by GIZ Serbia under the “Initiative for Global Solidarity” and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project will continue to expand the network of companies and strengthen their capacities through the Partnership for Equality, an initiative launched by the Commissioner in 2017.
