Age discrimination is one of the most common reasons why citizens address the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, which has become especially visible in the last two years, during the crisis caused by the pandemic, said the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at the webinar “Discrimination against the Elderly and Agenda 2030 “.
Although the realization of rights and equality, as well as the well-being of the elderly population, is not a specific goal of the Agenda 2030, many issues concerning the position of the elderly are contained in various goals and principles of sustainable development. Their economic and social position, protection of equality and access to health care are the most common reasons why the elderly address the Commissioner, and the realization of their rights leads to the realization of one of the leading principles of sustainable development – that no one is left out, the Commissioner said.
