Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic gave lecture at the Province Ombudsman Summer School in Vrsac about the role that institution of Commissioner has in the combat against discrimination.
Jankovic stressed that it is very important for young people to understand that discrimination violates basic human rights and that the combat against discrimination may be successful only if every one of us join and contribute it.
“If we are not able to free ourselves from prejudices, we will not be able to properly perform our job of layer, social worker or any other”, Jankovic emphasized.
Commissioner presented several typical cases from the Commissioner’s practice, as well as specific problems that citizens who belong to the social groups that are most discriminated against are facing.
Attendants of the Summer School had the opportunity to learn about the concept and causes of discrimination, its types and mechanisms for the suppression of discrimination. Most of them are students from the Philosophy Faculty at the University of Novi Sad and Faculty of Law “Lazar Vrtakic” from Novi Sad.
