The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, strongly condemns the behavior of Red Star fans at the handball match with Novi Pazar. Such exclamations and banners encourage discrimination on the basis of nationality and religion, and cause fear and a hostile environment, which is prohibited by law. Serbia is the state of all its citizens, regardless of nationality or religion, and such individual incidents must not be tolerated. Also, the publications of the People’s Patrol organization on social networks directed against migrants, but also against our citizens, whose photos have been publicly circulated, are inadmissible and prohibited by law, the Commissioner warns.
These incidents cause damage to the entire society, which has proven many times that it accepts and respects all our citizens, regardless of differences on any grounds. This behavior does not reflect the true picture of Serbia, concluded Janković.
