Commissioner on a study visit to Korea

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, was on a study visit to the Republic of Korea. During her visit, she met with representatives of Korean institutions and exchanged ideas and experiences regarding protecting equality and combating discrimination. The Korea Foundation organized the visit.

Janković visited the Women’s Institute for Human Rights, where she met with President Shin Bo-ra, to whom she presented the good practices of the Republic of Serbia regarding the representation of women in political life, decision-making processes, and the creation of public policies important for improving the position of women and protecting them from discrimination.

Meeting with the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Kim Hyunjun, and his team was an opportunity to discuss significant challenges in the field of human rights protection, especially for senior citizens and children. The problems of unfavorable demographic structure and low fertility rate, which is among the lowest in the world in Korea, were also discussed.

The green agenda and sustainable development are also important for social inclusion, reducing inequality, and improving the position of women, which was discussed during the meeting with the Assistant Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute, Dr. Kyung-Nam Shin, and the Director General for Asia. The Commissioner also visited the National Diplomatic Academy in Seoul and had meetings with the Ambassador for International Relations of the City of Seoul, Mr. Koo Hong-seok, representatives of the Government of Gyeonggi Province, representatives of the Korean Trade and Investment Promotion Agency KOTRA and the Executive Vice President of the Korea Foundation, Mr. Rhee Jong-kook. In addition to the official meetings, the hosts also organized visits to cultural institutions, including the National People’s Museum of Korea, the Global Center for Exchange and Development, the Samsung Innovation Museum, and other landmarks.
