Commissioner Janković at the Professional Conference of the Association of Prosecutors of Serbia

Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated in the professional conference “Are Pressures on the Public Prosecutor’s Office a Path to Justice?”, organized by the Association of Prosecutors of Serbia.

Speaking within the panel “Effective Response Mechanisms in Cases of Inappropriate Influence,” the Commissioner presented the work of the institution as one of the protection mechanisms in cases of discrimination. She emphasized the importance of education and the promotion of a human rights culture as key elements for preserving the independence of public prosecutors.

Janković underlined that decisions must be made by responsible and qualified public prosecutors, without any inappropriate influence, which applies equally to all other independent and autonomous state bodies. Law and justice must not be under pressure, but in the service of all citizens, the Commissioner stated.

She also pointed out that, in a time when we are witnessing numerous global challenges and setbacks in the field of human rights, it is the duty of everyone to preserve the values of equality, freedom, and respect for diversity, because no society is immune to regression, hate speech, and discrimination.
