Brankica Janković, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, is participating at the Second Gender Equality Review Conference in OSCE headquarters in Vienna.
Commissioner Janković spoke at the panel „Gender mainstreaming and conflict cycles“ accenting the role of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality in creation of National Action Plan for implementation of the Resolution 1325 of UN Security Council and role of independent institutions in achieving of main goals of human safety.
Conference in Vienna was open by Federal Minister for Families and Youth in Austria, Sophie Karmasin, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of OEBS (ODIHR) First Deputy Director, Katarzyna Gardapkhadze and Director of the Office of Secretary General, OSCE Secretariat, Paul Bekkers, while Premier of Canada, Justin Trudeau addressed via video link.
The goal of this conference is more active implementation of OSCE Action Plan for Promotion of Gender Equality and also activities aimed at implementation of gender policies in security sector, equal economic opportunities, women’s participation in political and public life and combating gender-based violence.
Speakers in the panels were also Lakshmi Puri, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, Pirkko Hamalainen, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland, Hedy Fry, Special Representative on Gender Issues of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and others.
Commissioner Janković had several bilateral meetings on the first day, with Serani Siegel, Project Manager of OSCE Gender Equality Sector, Margita Uzkenbayeva from Institute of Human Rights, Kazakhstan and others.
