Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic welcomed the opening of Pride Info Center in Belgrade, the first public space in the center of the city where citizens will be able to get information about activities of organizations dealing with rights of LGBT community.
Commissioner Jankovic supported the constitution of such center and stressed its great importance, because ignorance and prejudices are in the roots of every discrimination and violence against members of LGBT population. In order to further increase availability of the institution for citizens, Commissioner announced that employees of the Expert service of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality will be present in the center every Tuesday, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., ready to provide first- hand information about proceeding related to submitting complaints because of discrimination, as well as other activities of the Commissioner that are aimed to achievement of full equality.
Center was ceremonially opened by Goran Miletic, one of Belgrade Pride 2017 organizers, who reminded on the most important historical moments of LGBT activism in Serbia and announced over 50 happenings during this year’s Pride Week. At the center opening also spoke Dragoslava Barzut from association Da se zna (Let it be known) and Anita Mitic from Inicijative mladih za ljudska prava (Youth initiative for human rights).
