The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, participated in the Round Table “Building Lasting Peace – Why it is more important than ever to implement the ‘Women, Peace and Security’” Agenda, hosted by the German Federal Office for Foreign Affairs, as part of the Munich Security Conference 2025.
Analysis of 182 peace agreements shows that the participation of women in peace negotiations increases the probability of longevity of peace agreements by about 35%, but despite this, significant participation of women in peace building processes is still absent due to numerous cultural and political obstacles. Resolution 1325 remains a powerful instrument for change, and the security paradigm of the 21st century must evolve to include the knowledge and experiences of women. For that, we need empowered voices in the places where decisions are made, but also allies among men and women who can be role models for changes that we can only bring about together, said the Commissioner, among other things.
The meeting also discussed ways to enable full participation of women in political processes, protection of rights, and long-term fulfillment of women’s needs, as well as more effective prevention and suppression of gender-based violence, which is a threat to social stability and security.
