There are numerous benefits of intergenerational cooperation, which makes this topic universal and equally important for all generations, in all countries, emphasized the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, at the conference held on the occasion of the presentation of the results of the international project “Strengthening intergenerational solidarity”. The project was implemented by the HELP NET Center for Support and Inclusion, in cooperation with the Center of Social Services Horelica from Slovakia, the European Group of Territorial Cooperation TRITIA from Poland, and the association TRIANON from the Czech Republic, with the support of the International Visegrad Fund.
The Commissioner stated that the rapid changes in modern society, primarily demographic aging, the increase in the number of single households, and the prevailing digital communication, are reflected in the life of every individual, especially the elderly. The Commissioner states that the aging process does not bypass anyone, which is why the attitude to and the scope of meeting the needs of older citizens enable the improvement of not only the position of the elderly but also of all generations.
The data collected within the project, and the conclusions and recommendations that have been reached, can serve all the countries participating in the project as a basis for the development of public policies in this area, as well as national strategies and action plans, as a mechanism for the improvement of intergenerational dialogue and an example of good practice for the promotion of intergenerational solidarity.
In addition to HELP NET, representatives of partner organizations participated in the conference, and Monica Podsklanova Shuhajdova addressed the audience on behalf of the Slovak Embassy in Serbia, which currently chairs the Visegrád Group.
