It is not important where you live, but how you live and what is the quality of your life, said Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic at the closing conference of the project “Improvement of Economic and Social Position of Women in Rural Areas in Sumadija and Kolubara Districts”. She stressed that improvement of quality of life of women in rural areas, more equal share in distribution of income and their better social status are extremely important aspect not only for the improvement of position of women in villages but also for sustainable development of rural areas in Serbia.
Stressing the importance of project, financed by the Government of Switzerland, which provided economic support for 80 women who previously had excellent market results in the area of traditional food, items and souvenirs manufacturing, Jankovic said that women, especially in rural areas, need support to achieve all rights and that the best way do so is networking and developing of leadership, connecting and exchange of experiences.
In order to improve the quality of life of women in villages, it is necessary to encourage female entrepreneurship in rural areas, because the position of women in villages is much harder, not only compared to men, but also to women living in urban areas.
