Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic spoke at the conference “Domestic violence – gender and age aspect”, held in the Cacak City Assembly on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and anniversary of Center for Social Work in Cacak.
Noting that domestic, partner and violence against children and elderly is one of the biggest social problems, Commissioner Jankovic emphasized the importance of quality cooperation between relevant bodies in suppression of this occurrence, stating that enacting of new Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence resulted in significant improvement in effective answer of the state.
Commissioner stressed that practice reveals that it is necessary to include academic and scientific community more, in order to gain deeper analysis of domestic violence cases, determine the wrong settings in family, education and other important areas of life and also to define what we need to change first and how to work efficiently on the prevention of violence.
“Every woman who reports a perpetrator, in order to get out of the vicious circle of violence, is doing much not only for herself, but for her children, other women, as well as for the older persons who are also exposed to physical and psychological violence in a family environment, although it often remains hidden”, said Commissioner. She added that it is very important for the coming generations that women are not present in media only in crime, celebrity or culinary sections, but to pay more attention on their contribution to politics, science and social life.
The results of successful cooperation between Center for Social Work, police, prosecution and courts in Cacak and Ivanjica were presented at the conference, while other speakers were also Deputy Mayor of Cacak Milica Dacic, director of the Center for Social Work in Cacak Branimirka Radosavcevic and Ivana Kostic from the District Public Prosecution in Cacak.
