Women in Serbia have borne the greatest brunt of the pandemic by working in vital areas such as health, trade, education, the media, due to which they were more exposed to the virus, while many women have lost their jobs, especially in the services sector, said Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at the online conference “What we have learned” organized by the United Nations Agency for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Serbia UN Women and cultural organization Mixer.
Janković presented the initiatives and recommendations issued by the institution of the Commissioner in the previous period, which refer to the position of women, and stressed that both parents should share the burden children care whenever possible, especially in the education process, which is a special challenge today.
Other speakers at the conference were Gordana Čomić, Minister of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, Milana Rikanović, Head of the UN Women Serbia, psychologist Branka Drašković and Aleksandra Malušev from the Mikser organization.
