“In Serbia, a big step forward has been made in the field of gender equality, especially in some areas, but discrimination is most prevalent in the labor market, where women are the most frequent victims, confirm all the data during the decade of existence of our institution “, said Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Janković at the online conference “Improving gender equality in Serbia “.
Commissioner said that there is a solid legal framework because the two key laws, Law on Gender Equality and Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, have been applied for 11 years, which is sufficient period to evaluate their implementation, but changes in regulations are not enough without the implementation of all other laws. “We need to change cultural patterns and to get rid of gender stereotypes, we need a different home management, because there no statistics can measure the number of women’s sleepless hours. We have done a lot, but there is a much greater burden of private life on women’s backs “, Commissioner emphasized. According to her, it is important to follow up the changes on the labor market, because only a few years ago there was no need to regulate digital equality or the use of artificial intelligence and automation.
At the conference, organized by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation in cooperation with Foundation Center for Democracy, also spoke Minister Gordana Čomić, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Jorn Gelstad, directors of two foundations Ana Košel and Natasa Vuckovic.
