Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic opened traditional “Days of Social Protection” an expert conference dedicated to the education of employees in the system of social protection. Commissioner emphasized the importance of the mechanism for the protection against discrimination, including the role that persons employed in the social protection system have to recognize discrimination, because citizens are addressing them daily on their jobs. She used this opportunity to point to the legal obligation of non-discriminatory acting to all beneficiaries of social protection system, regardless of their sex, age, health condition, nationality and other personal characteristics, presenting some of the examples from the Commissioner’s practice.

Commissioner particularly stressed the right of employees to non-discrimination and dignified work in the social protection system, as well as their problems and protection mechanisms, expressing a special understanding for huge problem of insufficient capacities, especially human resources, taking into account the immeasurable role that social protection system has in the state and social organization.

During her speech, Commissioner indicated that, during decision making and performing of jobs within execution of public authorities, employees cannot base their decisions on prejudices and stereotypes, instead on apprehended expert procedure and explained valuations, grounded in balanced, careful and objective observation and impartial assessment. This particularly relates to composing of findings and expert opinions that centers for social work deliver to courts in proceedings that involve decisions about protection of child rights or execution or restriction of parental rights, following the best interest of the child and circumstances of every case.

Sixth “Days of Social Protection”, organized by New Syndicate of Social Protection and Chamber of Social Protection, are held in Banja Vrujci, with aim to educate and introduce employees with all mechanisms for prevention of discrimination and improvement of equality in area of social protection.
