The City Organization of the Deaf of Belgrade today marked a major jubilee – 100 years of existence and work. At the event, which brought together representatives of institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners, Tatjana Prijić, Assistant to the Commissioner, and Sanja Đorđević, Senior Advisor, attended on behalf of the institution of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality.
Equal participation of persons with disabilities is not a matter of anyone’s goodwill, but a matter of respecting the principles of equality and human rights. For many years, the Commissioner has provided support to deaf and hard-of-hearing persons, both through proceedings for protection against discrimination on the grounds of disability and through issuing recommendations of measures, as well as by continuously informing the public about the necessity of implementing the principles of universal design and ensuring full informational and communication accessibility.
