JAZAS is a pioneer in activities in many areas regarding raising awareness about respect and protecting the social rights of social groups at greater risk of discrimination, and we need to pay particular attention to a broader education of young people about sexual and reproductive health and rights in this area, said Brankica Janković, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, at the “Wealth of Experience” conference on the occasion of the celebration of three decades of operation of JAZAS.
The Commissioner pointed out that the provision of family planning services, pregnancy maintenance, and other health care services in the field of sexual and reproductive health are of crucial importance for the entire society. As one of the good measures, she mentioned the provision of vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV) at the expense of the Republic Health Insurance Fund.
“There should be more measures and actions like this, along with continuous cooperation with representatives of the media and medical experts to timely inform and educate the population about infectious diseases, especially young people, as well as continuous work to reduce the stigmatization and discrimination of certain social groups, such as people suffering from rare diseases, people living with HIV/AIDS, LGBT and trans people,” said Janković.
At the opening of the “Wealth of Experience” conference on the occasion of 30 years of operation of JAZAS, professor Dr. Aleksandar Dujić, president of the JAZAS Assembly and one of the founders of the SFRY Association for Combating AIDS, who participated in the team that diagnosed the first case of HIV in Yugoslavia, also spoke, as well as the Director of this Association, Miloš Stojiljković Rolović, and the president of the Municipality of Zvezdara, Vladan Jeremić.
