The first training for representatives of local governments entitled “Protection against discrimination – identifying and preventing discrimination in the work of the local self-government bodies” was organized in Belgrade by the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-government, in cooperation with Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities.
Ivan Bošnjak, State Secretary, Tatjana Jokanović, Assistant Commissioner for the Protection of Equality and Đorđe Staničić, Secretary General of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities spoke at the event, while the workshop was led by representatives of Commissioner Expert Service, Emila Spasojević and Tijana Milošević, together with Assistant Commissioner.
The aim of this training is to bring the existing anti-discrimination legal framework closer to civil servants and officials in local self-governments and to establish criteria for identifying discrimination, so that they can adequately respond within their jurisdiction. Practical examples from the work of the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality will be presented to the participants of the event. The plan is to organize 10 such workshops throughout Serbia during this year.
