On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic reminds that the violation of human rights and spread of racial, national and religious hatred and intolerance can lead to catastrophic consequences of widespread proportions.
The importance of equality, respect for diversity, and the harmfulness that discrimination can make to an individual and society, must be learned from childhood, through socialization, starting from the family, through the education system and the media, to all other activities in the community. Respect for human rights, the prohibition of discrimination and the cultivation of a culture of tolerance and dialogue are the best defense against all threats that could endanger the most civilized values of each society, concludes the Commissioner.
