Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, congratulates International Pride Day to all members of LGBT population, noting that this day is an opportunity to draw public attention at the need for further improvement of their position.
Last year’s survey on attitudes of Serbian citizens to discrimination revealed that social distance to members of LGBT population still exists, causing these persons to live in fear of discrimination or rejection.
Basic human rights must not be endangered for anyone and that is why it is necessary for all relevant authorities to continuously take measures aimed to provide dignified life to members of LGBT population, stresses Commissioner Janković, saying that institution of Commissioner for the Protection of Equality will continue to work on suppression and prevention of discrimination of all sensitive social groups as well as on affirmation of ideas of equality, tolerance and respect of human rights.
