The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, Brankica Janković, strongly condemns the incident that happened last night, when unknown persons smashed the glass on the building of the Jewish cemetery in Roosevelt Street with pieces of stones and threw an ax into the building. Of particular concern is the fact that it is a matter of desecrating the cemetery.

Such vandal incidents do not reflect the true picture of Serbia and are unacceptable in a country that is building a democratic society and advocating zero tolerance for anti-Semitism. The response of the competent authorities must be efficient and the perpetrators severely punished.
