The Commissioner for the Protection of Equality informs the public that Primary School “Đuro Strugar” in New Belgrade failed to act upon the recommendation to reinstate the Russian language teacher, who had worked at that school for four years under a fixed-term employment contract, and to issue her a written apology, after it was established in the procedure conducted upon a complaint that she had been discriminated against in the field of employment on the basis of her political belief.
Acting upon the employee’s complaint, the Commissioner established that the complainant had been discriminated against because, after the 2024/2025 school year, during which she actively participated in the suspension of classes in support of student protests, the school did not conclude a new employment contract with her for the 2025/2026 school year, although there was a need for a Russian language teacher.
Given that the school failed to act upon the recommendation even after, in accordance with the law, a warning measure had been imposed on it and the statutory deadline of 30 days for compliance had been left, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, in accordance with the law, informs the public of the failure to act upon the issued recommendation.
